Wednesday Night Study
Savior: What the Bible says about the Cross | Wednesdays Starting March 12 | 5:45 PM
Join Rev. Amber Lea Gray for a 6 week Lenten study on Margrey DeVega’s book, Savior: What the Bible says about the cross.
The cross is the central symbol of the Christian faith. But what exactly did Jesus do to save us from our sins? Why was the cross necessary, and what does it mean for us today?
In Savior: What the Bible Says About the Cross, Magrey deVega faithfully describes the need for reconciliation between humankind and a holy God through Jesus’ death on the cross. The Bible uses many images to understand the meaning of Jesus' death and resurrection, and deVega guides us through these images to achieve a richer understanding of the Christian faith. By exploring the mystery of salvation through the cross, we can deepen our love for God and others and strengthen our commitment to follow Jesus
Books can be purchased on Amazon, or let the church office know if you want us to order you one. The cost is $14.

Encounter | A Lenten Worship Series
Join us on Sundays at 10:30 AM in the Sanctuary!
This Lenten season, join us for a six-week journey to Encounter Jesus. Lent is a time of self-examination and reflection. In this worship series, we will walk alongside the disciples in their post-resurrection encounters with Jesus, reflecting on how His victory over death assures us of God’s presence in both our brightest moments and darkest hours. While Lent often focuses on the rejection, suffering and death of Jesus, we are reminded by Martin Luther that every Sunday is a ‘little Easter.” Join us as we are reminded this Lenten season that the resurrection is more than just an event in history, but is the power of God at work, offering new beginnings no matter our circumstances. A cross without an empty tomb is bad news that changes nothing. But the good news of Jesus’ resurrection changes everything.

When the angels visit the shepherds in the fields, their message is global but also personal: “To you . . . a savior is born.” This birth is good news for everyone, especially those who are ignored or disenfranchised. On this night, God is born, and this God of love knows your name.

Advent: Words for the Beginning
Join us on Sundays at 10:30 AM starting December 1st as we begin our Advent worship series.
Advent is a season of endings and beginnings. As the calendar year comes to a close, a new church year begins. Christ’s birth ushers us into new ways of living and loving; and yet, the world as we know it spins madly on. In many ways, pregnant Mary was surrounded by endings—large and small, personal and political. But Mary proclaimed hope in a God who was and is making all things new. Christ’s birth offered a beautiful new beginning for shepherds and Magi alike—all the while, King Herod tried to bring Christ’s story to an end. When we ourselves navigate seasons filled with endings and beginnings, we need reminders. We need words that can feel like steady ground, like a path for our feet to find as we step forward into the unknown. As you journey through this season, may you find words for belovedness and hope. May you find words for beginning again. For no matter what you are facing, no matter what this new day brings, love is your beginning.

Study: The Difficult Words of Jesus
Join us on Wednesdays starting September 18th at 5:45 for a 6 week study, The Difficult Words of Jesus by Amy-Jill Levine.
Books are optional and cost $14. Please let Paula in the church office know if you want her to order you one, or you can order your own at Amazon.
Study Description
Jesus provided his disciples teachings for how to follow Torah, God’s word; he told them parables to help them discern questions of ethics and of human nature; he offered them beatitudes for comfort and encouragement. But sometimes Jesus spoke words that followers then and now have found difficult. He instructs disciples to hate members of their own families (Luke 14:26), to act as if they were slaves (Matthew 20:27), and to sell their belongings and give to the poor (Luke 18:22). He restricts his mission (Matthew 10:6); he speaks of damnation (Matthew 8:12); he calls Jews the devil’s children (John 8:44).
In The Difficult Words of Jesus, Amy-Jill Levine shows how these difficult teachings would have sounded to the people who first heard them, how have they been understood over time, and how we might interpret them in the context of the Gospel of love and reconciliation.
